Altrincham gave Frenchman Joel Ekolengeni his debut, having recently obtained international clearance for him to play in England. Chris Davies was also to get his first Altrincham Youth action today, after starting the game on the bench.
Altrincham started brightly, winning several corners but without managing to create any clear goal chances. But Kingsley went ahead after ten minutes when their no.10 got free and played the ball across the face of the Altrincham goal. The unfortunate Michael Bailey could not get out of the way of it and the ball deflected off him into his own net.
After an Altrincham attack had been cleared, Paul Glynn knocked a ball through the middle to Luke Killeen. He beat his man and, still some way out from goal, he struck the ball into the net off the upright (22 mins). Play was then fairly even, though throughout the game the pace of the Kingsley side was to cause problems for the Altrincham defence. With just a minute to the interval, the Kingsley no.9 was not closed down and he shot from 25 yards. The ball took a bad bounce on a divot and evaded the diving Richard Harrison to restore Kingsley's lead (44 mins).

The game was sealed two minutes after the break when Kingsley broke up the right and their no.8 cut in and drove a shot across Harrison into the far corner of the net to make it 3-1. The home team were now the better side as their pace continued to cause problems. Altrincham made two changes to try to turn the game around. Chris Davies came on for his debut up front in place of Steve Lunt (70 mins), whilst Steve McGrath replaced Francis Evans in midfield (73 mins). A third change saw David Berry replace Paul Glynn after 82 minutes but the pattern of the game was not significantly altered by these team changes. Three minutes from the end the home side's no.13 was left unmarked and headed home goal number four. Frost, Byrne, Ekolengeni and Killeen were probably the pick of the Alty side but overall the Altrincham lads will be disappointed by their general performance today.
