REPORT

The following report comes courtesy of Ritchie Semple.

Alty enjoyed near domination for the whole match, but a mixture of dogged defending and poor decision making in the final third kept the score to a narrow but well deserved 1-0 victory.

With 4 players unavailable due to FA Youth Cup commitments, a young, inexperienced Alty team took to the field and put in a very mature and encouraging performance. Sam Heathcote and Aaron Longley were solid at the back, supported well by full backs, Chris Walker and Treyvon Simpson.

As always, Dan Jones controlled the midfield along with the energetic Obajimi Folageade. After a good period of possession, it came as no surprise when Alty took the lead, following some great one touch football between Jones and Westall, Jimi Folageade sent Ben Reid free down the right, his through ball found Westall’s run, whose great first touch with his left foot lifted the ball and in one movement hit a right foot volley in to the top corner giving the Hyde keeper no chance.

Alty continued to dominate and went close several times through Steve Bullen and the outstanding Luke Crompton. Matty Johnson in the Alty goal had a quiet afternoon making only one save in the 90 minutes. The score line was only 1-0 at the break despite Alty’s’ impressive domination.

The second half followed the same pattern as the first with Alty having the majority of possession, creating chances but not finishing them off.

Crompton, Folageade and Westall all went close but as the players tired on the heavy pitch, the game became stretched. There were no more chances for either team in the last few minutes so the match finished 1-0 to Alty, a thoroughly deserved win, moving Alty to joint second in the league.
