STATISTICAL FOOTNOTES NO.2
More statistics to bore your friends with!
Players: Alty have now used 28 players in their 18 League matches. Only Stuart Coburn has played every League match in full, though Gary Talbot has also started every League game. Stuart has missed one Cup game whereas Gary has started them all.
Of the other players, only Stuart Scheuber has played some part in all of our 18 League games. Four players who have played for us in the League this season have already left the Club (Goodwin, Quinn, Quayle and Garrity). Mario Daniel, at 16, is our youngest first-teamer this season, whilst Mark Ward (over 21) is our oldest.
Scorers: An amazing total of fifteen different players have already scored for Altrincham in League matches. No player scored more than once in a game until match number 14 when Carl Furlong's brace broke with tradition. Then Gary Scott and Alex Hay repeated the trick with two goals each in two of the next three games. The leading scorers so far are: Kevin Ellison 7 (League), Dickie Landon 7 (5 League, 2 Cup including 1 penalty), Carl Furlong 5 (League). Otis Thomas, at 17, is our youngest scorer (in the Cup at Ilkeston).
Dickie Landon: Dickie has scored six times from six League starts and 8 sub appearances and twice from three Cup starts and one sub appearance. Three of his seven goals have come in or after the 86th minute. We have yet to lose a match in which Dickie has scored this season.
Our Goals: Altrincham have scored in every away League game this season; their blank in the Cheshire Senior Cup at the Drill Field is their only away failure this season. However, they have failed to score in three home League matches (v. Emley, Stalybridge and Gainsborough) and in the Cup (v.Mossley). 39 League goals have come in 18 matches and 5 more have arrived in the 4 Cup games; an overall average of exactly 2 Alty goals per game. In 9 matches at home and 9 away, we have scored 21 away goals in the League but only 17 at home.
Their Goals: The defence has conceded 22 League goals and kept six clean sheets in the League. We have won only once (Worksop) after we had conceded the first goal and lost only once after getting the first goal (Hyde). Altrincham have been awarded and scored one League penalty (Ward v, Gateshead) and conceded one versus Droylsden. We have also scored and conceded one in Cup matches. Two own-goals have been conceded, both by Gary Talbot (v. Hyde and v. Gainsborough).
Times: The Robins have still not scored in the first ten minutes of any of their 18 League and 4 Cup matches, but have conceded five League goals in the first nine minutes.
Nine of our 39 goals in the League have arrived in the last ten minutes of games and eight have arrived between the 11th and 16th minutes. Sixteen of our goals have arrived in the first-half of League matches and 23 in the second-half. In fact, virtually a half of our League goals (19) have come later in the 63rd minute or later. Look away when the clock reaches 25 minutes into any Saturday afternoon game as we have conceded four goals in that minute, (v. Whitby, Lancaster, Emley, Worksop).
Crowds:Since the last Statistical Footnotes Altrincham's average home League attendances have fallen from 648 to 614 and have now been overtaken by the average away attendance, which is now 641. Our biggest home gate was 828 (v. Stalybridge); away 1,272 were at the Barrow game.
Discipline: Alty have picked up 29 League bookings and one red card (Glendenning, at Hyde). Six more cautions have come in the four Cup games to date. Those still unbooked in the League, after more than ten starts, are Stuart Coburn, Adam Farley and Gary Talbot.
And finally... After eighteen games we are six points better off than at the same stage in 1998/99 when we went on to win the Unibond Premiership!
